Praxes aus Kos alsproxenos und Wohltäter der Stadtgemäß dieser Proxenie den sich(in Kos) aufhaltenden Bürger von Nutzenwar und um die Belange der Stadt insgesamt immervoller Ehrgeiz, stets vortrefflichund ergeben war, indem er immer alleInteressen des Volkes in Wort und Tatvertrat; und jetzt selbst erschien, zu den- - -ien als Festgesandter entsandt von denKoern, die Archonten aber einen Vorbeschluss für ihnüber Belobigung und Kranzund Bürgerrecht fassten, so wolle beschließen das Volk:dass man Praximenes belobige wegen derWohltaten, die er tut und erzeigt der Stadt;dass man ihn bekränze mit goldenemKranz bei den Dionysien an den Spielen und dabeibekanntmache: “Das Volk bekränztPraximenes S.d. Praxes aus Kos, proxenosder Stadt und Wohltäter, mit goldenemKranz wegen seiner Frömmigkeit gegenüber denGöttern und seinem Wohlwollens gegenüber dem Volk”;dass er und seine Nachkommen Bürgersein sollen und bekommen, woran auch die anderen BürgerAnteil haben; dass man ihm auch Steuerbefreiung gebe für das,was eingeführt oder ausgeführt wird in seineigenes Haus, und einen Ehrenplatz bei denSpielen; dass auch seine BrüderMenestratos und Me- - - undOnasyllos aus Kos proxenoi sein sollen undWohltäter, sie selbst und ihre Nachkommen;und dass ihnen alles zustehe, was auch denanderen proxenoi (zusteht); und dass ihnenauch ein Ehrenplatz sein soll bei den Spielen; dass derGesandte, der der Stadt der Koer dengoldenen Kranz überbringt, auch an Praximenesden für ihn beschlossenen Kranz übergebeund die Koer bitte, anzuweisenden hervorragendsten Platz - - -- - -

Decree of the Samothracians.It was decreed by the council and people: inasmuchas Praximenes son of Praxes, Koan,a proxenos and benefactor of the city,in keeping with his proxeny suppliesthe needs of the citizens who visitand public spirited with respect to our city’s common mattershas always conducted himself as good and honorableand eager, always saying anddoing what is advantageousto the people; and now he has come to- - -ia as theoros sent by theKoans and the magistrates have drafted a proposalfor him concerning praise and a crownand citizenship, it is decreed by the people:to praise Praximenes for the benefactionshe has performed and demonstrated to the city,and to crown him with a gold crownat the contest of the Dionysia, making theproclamation: “the people crownsPraximenes son of Praxes, Koan, who is a proxenosof the city and a benefactor, with a goldcrown for his piety toward thegods and his good will toward the people”;he and his descendants are to be citizens,sharing what the other citizensdo; he is also to be given tax-exemptionon whatever he imports or exports to hisown home, and front-row seating at ourcontests; also his brothersMenestratos and Me- - - andOnasyllos, Koans, are to be proxenoi andbenefactors, both themselves and their descendants,and possess all thatother proxenoi do, and are to havealso front-row seating at the contests; the am-bassador who brings the gold crownfor the city of the Koans is also to deliverthe crown voted for Praximenesand ask the Koans to designatethe most conspicuous place - - -- - -
